Frequently asked head scratchers

We’ve put together common questions you might find yourself asking when it comes to hair care products. If the below information isn’t what you’re looking for, please contact us with your query and we’ll be in touch.

Dandruff is a common scalp condition that affects more than 50% of the population and is characterised by visible white flakes in your hair.

Dandruff is caused by a naturally occurring microbe, Malassezia globosa, which is present on everyone’s scalp.

Gill has a range of anti-dandruff products which will assist in alleviating dandruff with regular use. These include 2 in 1 Anti – Dandruff Shampoo & Conditioner for Normal Hair, 2 in 1 Anti – Dandruff Shampoo & Conditioner for Dry Scalp, 2 in 1 Anti – Dandruff Shampoo & Conditioner Mild, Anti – Dandruff Shampoo’s for Normal Hair, Dry Scalp & for Oily Hair. Which one you use depends on the type of hair you have.

Dandruff is what dermatologists call a ‘recurring condition’ so unless you treat it regularly, your symptoms will probably return. That’s because the naturally occurring microbe that causes dandruff – Malassezia globosa – scalp oils, and a scalp that’s sensitive to the microbe are nearly always present.

You only get dandruff if you’re sensitive to the main causes, and you’re either sensitive or you’re not. It’s not something that can be caught like a cold or flu virus. If you’re sensitive to the combination of Malassezia and scalp oils, your body responds by speeding up the production of skin cells, causing excess skin to build up and appear as flakes. Other symptoms include irritation, redness, itching and a dry scalp.

I promise, this is the last one…
